truthseeker100, I wasn't in during the 1990s but I think it was around 1995 when the Watchtower did its first major revision on the 1914 issue. This was, if I'm not mistaken, before the overlapping generations teaching.

I think we should focus not on the 607BCE issue but rather on their different views of 1914 in the past 130 years. As Simon says no one wants to do the math.
Here are the basic metamorphosis that 1914 went through:
!) The end was a period of time from 1799 to 1914. Armageddon was a 40 year period between 1874 and 1914 which was supposed to have been a period of social anarchy. The Millennium would begin in 1914.
The earthquakes, famines and wars predicted in Matthew 24 were fulfilled in the past 1800 years (from the point of view in the late 1880s) since that prophecy was made.
2) Then, sometime after that failed to come about, they said that the end would occur within the lives of those who witnessed the events of 1914.
Throughout the 1970s to early 1990s the age of reason of those who witnessed the events of 1914 was considered to be young adults. But later they shrunk the age down to children but indicated that infants were included. When that failed they changed that to infants born in 1914.
3) Now we got the "overlapping generations".

Armageddon in 1975 'probability' or 'possibility'? Irrefutable Proof the Watchtower Said 1975 Was "Game Over!"
by PhilsWager2 init's hard to know where to put this link to a polish book some of you older members probably read, while our newer members are seeking answers to questions the watchtower vehemently deny's!
do i put this under "jw scandals" or "jw beliefs"?
for decades without the internet many of us did not have access to all the publications written by early watchtower writers because access was hard, only men like raymond franz jr(god rest his brave soul) had the golden key for entering the library of all publications jws made.. can some of the older members remember people who sold their homes and others who bought things in the summer or fall of 1974 knowing they won't be paying for their purchases because jehovah will destroy all the creditors records when he kills them!

Fisherman,
"The missing variable is Eve's age. The Bible does not say when she came into the picture. How long was Adam without Eve, 40 years?"
Actually it's the ages of Cain and Abel that limit the span of time since 1975. I once calculated it and I came up with about 130 years until the end of 6,000 years of man's existence.
Bungi Bill,
"Furthermore, this same talk had been recorded only several weeks earlier. Prior to 1975, there was certainly nothing said about the matter of Eve's creation and how that affected things. In fact, a magazine article in 1968 (entitled "Why are you looking forward to 1975?") emphatically stated that the time lag between the end of 6000 years of human creation and The Big A "might only be a matter of weeks.""
I was there at the Inglewood forum, around 1974, (Southern California) when I heard Fred Franz give his view of 1975. He stated that Armageddon would happen within months or a few years after 1975 but not decades. He even stated that Jehovah would not allow the end to be decades after 1975 because Adam would have been tempted into bestiality (the longer the time period, the longer Adam is without Eve)!!!
I remember having a tape recorder taping the talk. I don't know where that tape is or even if I still have it.

Should I Shun My Dog?
by snugglebunny insome background:josie the miniature schnauzer is now 12 years old, so she's old enough to know the difference between right and wrong.
however, she insists on peeing in the middle of my beautifully tended lawn, which, as a consequence, is now covered in brown patches.
i've remonstrated with her a number of times and each time she purports to show a diplay of repentance, that is, she slinks away on her belly with her ears flattened down tightly to her head.

SimonSays,
"If you really want the truth, I suggest you read all of Russell’s publicans. Don’t just look at the dates, but understand the parallels."
All several thousand pages of his 6 part volume and Watchtowers from 1878-1916? Parallels? If the dates were consistently wrong how right would the "parallels' be?

Damned if they do, Damned if they don't
by FusionTheism ini see an attitude among some people here which is not very helpful.
i can understand it, but still, it's not constructive or helpful.. if you condemn the society for not changing, but then you also condemn them when they do change in a positive way, what incentive or motive does that provide for the people at the society to ever want to change for the better?.
also, what does that attitude look like to current witnesses who are having doubts?.

Bonsai, "What the frick does what Catholics do or don't do have anything to do with this thread?"
It's his way of detracting from the subject. As if to say that the crimes the Watchtower commits are unimportant because some else is equally guilty.
If anything, Mr. SimonSays, such arguments make it clear that the JWs are on the same level as the Catholic Church. Besides, there are many on this forum who do condemn the Catholic Church.

God answers prayer of paralyzed little boy
by Simon inthe answer was "no".

obviously it's the onion so it's satirical but it got me thinking how the religious view prayer and god.

So SimonSays, why are you making your statements inside of those boxes? Are you trying to prevent us from cut and pasting them?
